11/24 Wild Bird Watching Event - Lots of sightings
Chihaya-enchi Park is in the middle of the autumn foliage. Including staff, there were 20 people at this bird watching event. (Photo 1-2)
First, we made sure not to make too much noise as we set off to look for Mushikui and Copper Pheasant, but unfortunately we didn't see any... (Photo 3)
But then, in Shiki-no-Tani, we came across an Asian Rosy-Finch (Hagimashiko). It's a rare sight. The bird wouldn't let us take our time to take photos. Maybe not everyone got to see them? (Photo 4-5)
While eating lunch, we found a great spotted woodpecker (Akagera). It's been a while since we've seen one. And what's more, a male and female, are they already paired?
The first great spotted woodpecker we found was a female. (Photo 6-8)
There was also a male great spotted woodpecker nearby!! (Photo 9-11)
Satisfied with the great spotted woodpecker, we went further and found two Japanese Accentors (Kayakuguri). They were digging around the ground for food. They flew away once, but then came back again. (Photo 12-16)
On the way back to the museum, we encountered a green woodpecker (Aogera). It's hard to see because of the backlight and hidden by the twigs. It's hiding well!! (Photo 17-19)
It's a female Green Woodpecker with no red on the front of its head. Nice photos.
A Red-flanked Bluetail we saw at the campsite before the meeting. (Photo 20)
After the bird-watching hike, in front of the museum, we checked the name of the birds we found today. The number of species we saw and heard that day was surprisingly few, at 18, but the content was substantial and we were very satisfied.
But there was still an extra bonus!!
As I was leaving, I saw 4-5 participants pointing their cameras at the ground.
There it is!!!
It's a copper pheasant Yamadori). Maybe it didn't come out in the morning because there were so many people, or maybe it was just hungry because it hadn't been able to get any food, anyway it's pecking at the ground enthusiastically.
There were people taking photos nearby, but they were all silent. The copper pheasant was pecking eagerly. I wish it would have come out during the observation session... (Photo 21- 24)
(Video) Copper pheasant looking for food
It's something like a grass root that the copper pheasant was holding in its mouth. I wonder if it eats the roots too? ? (Photo 25)
It was a very satisfying day.
As always, we would like to thank CC, KI, TI, and TK for providing us with photos. We were able to upload some wonderful photos again this time.
